Alongside commissions for pieces of jewellery, glass art and other beautiful things Rachel has been asked to make trophies and awards. Fused glass creates colourful and distinctive pieces which have real “wow” and are treasured by the winners.
‘Making Tracks’ is a hugely popular mountain biking event held each year on Alyth Hill. As part of the 2015 event Rachel was commissioned to make a series of trophies for the winning riders who participated in a challenging cross country timed race.
The brief: ‘ To create a trophy for a mountain biking competition for a men’s and woman’s race, marking first, second and third prize’.
‘I was really flattered to be asked to make something for this event- I love cycling and have huge respect for the riders who fly down the hill an awful lot faster than I ever could!’ said Rachel. ‘I was keen to keep a local provenance for the trophy while still creating something that reflected the achievements of the riders- something they would be proud to display and would remind them of Alyth’.
After the race the winners were amazed at the quality of the trophies and that they didn’t have to give them back the following year!
